Beyond the Temple Complex

Angkor Archaeological Park is extraordinary, but Siem Reap province extends far beyond its walls. A private car opens up experiences that buses and organised tours can't reach.

Flooded Forest at Kampong Phluk

About 16 km south of Siem Reap, this stilted village sits on the edge of the Tonlé Sap lake. In the wet season, the surrounding forest floods to 6–8 metres — boat trips through the submerged trees are surreal.

Best visited: June – November

Banteay Srei

Often overlooked in favour of Angkor Wat, this 10th-century temple is carved from pink sandstone in extraordinary detail. It's 30 km from Siem Reap but absolutely worth the half-day trip.

Artisans Angkor

A social enterprise preserving traditional Khmer crafts — silk weaving, stone carving, lacquerware. The workshop tours are free and genuinely fascinating. Located in central Siem Reap.

Preah Vihear Day Trip

For adventurous travellers, the UNESCO-listed Preah Vihear temple perches dramatically on a cliff on the Thai border. It's a 3-hour drive north of Siem Reap — doable as a long day trip with an early start.

Planning a Multi-Day Itinerary

Siem Reap works well as a base for exploring the wider region. Tap can arrange multi-day transfers with flexible pickup times — ideal for building a custom itinerary around temple opening hours and market days.
